Description

Going back before the beginning of the 20th century we find the first reference of any Hispanic in The Salvation Army. Early in the 20th century the first efforts were made to reach out to the Hispanic population in The United States. This was mostly on the border with Mexico. In the 1920s and 1930s there was some branching out to a few other cities but it was not until the 1950s and 1960s the this ministry started to expand. From that point on the ministry has grown rapidly. Early in the 1960s The Salvation Army formally opened their ministry in Puerto Rico. The growth and effectiveness of this ministry has been outstanding.

Reviews/Quotes

From the Epilogue During the last decade of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st, a very large proportion of the growth of The Salvation Army in the United States took place among Hispanic people and in Hispanic corps (churches). It was clear that the chronic obstacles to this ministry-differences of language and culture being chief among them had been overcome, and that the future looked very bright. REVIEWS: General Paul Rader - retired international leader of The Salvation Army. We just received a copy of Triunfarán. Beautifully produced and filling a vital gap in the history of the Army's mission in the States. General John Larsson - retired international leader of The Salvation Army. My warmest congratulations on Triunfarán. The book must have taken you hundreds of hours to research and write, so my thanks for this practical dedication in service of Hispanic ministry. John Huegel - He served in Mexico for forty years. I just finished reading Triunfarán and want to congratulate you for this fine book. You did a lot of research and it paid off. Gretchen Jacobson - the daughter of the first Hispanic Salvation Army officer in the world. "Frank, thank you so much for your book. It is a wonderful piece of information that should have been told to the world. William Decoteaux - retired professor of sociology of Asbury University. I was delighted to find in my mail about 10 days back your new book! I was so excited that by bedtime I had scanned the full book and read specifically the few pages dedicated to Rochester. I have read more since and especially enjoyed the richness of the photos. You must have spent hours and hours searching and selecting.
