Reviews/Quotes

This second book of the Mayan Chronicles by Lee Cart takes us on a hair-raising journey through the Underworld. Simultaneously, in the land of the living, ancient Mayan communities are faced with revengeful attacks of a black witch whose evil challenges the courage and resilience of villagers. It looks like the light will overcome the darkness, but it appears that we will have to wait until the third volume to learn if love will indeed trump hate. I admit that I am hooked on this honest series which asks us to grow along with each vivid character.--Patricia Fisken Rise of the Mayan Chronicles is a series for the young adult reader who enjoys adventure, magic and myth brought to life through ancient culture. The immense detailing of every day life adds to the richness and complexity of the story, immersing the reader in the action. As a mother of daughters I loved seeing Na'om, the young female heroine, facing down the dark side with unknowing courage. And courage she needs, as the trials put forth by the dark side come fast and furious! The imagination of Lee Cart shines through her female character, a girl for the ages.--Angela
