Thank you, Arturo, for writing such an inspirational, mind-opening and powerful book! I spent 10 years as a middle school teacher in an urban school district, and I so wish I had your book back then to share with my former students and colleagues. The Latino Community's voice was sorely missing from our conversations, and what a difference your book would have made for all of us. That's why your voice, your story, and the 50 stories you tell, must be heard not just by adults, but also by adolescents who are in the early stages of trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in. If I was still teaching middle school, I would definitely start the year reading excerpts from your book to my 6th, 7th and 8th graders (and also have it available for those who wanted to read it themselves), and then modify the action steps you include at the end of the chapters into steps that they could take. But since I no longer have my own classroom, I will recommend Logra Tu Dream to all the teachers I know because 1) they get the opportunity to meet 51 inspirational and successful Latino and Latina role models, 2) when finished reading, they will have a deeper understanding of the Latino Community and 3) it is a gift they can share with their students to help inspire them to achieve their dreams.
