Description

This book has been written by the components of the “Onelio Jorge Cardoso” literary center. The center can be thought of a Top Gun school for young writers. Each year, thousands of students from all across Cuba apply to join the best Creative Writing center in the Island, and only the very best join. Once there, they go through a rigorous program that emphasizes literary quality and forces the students to explore every subject, gender, and style. The class of 2014 was beyond extraordinary. Together, they formed a new group of writers that redefined the Cuban literature and received the name of “Ariete” (Battering Ram) generation, due the fact that they were breaking down old walls, myths, and established concepts. These 25 shorts stories and essays represent a fundamental sample of the new wave of Cuban literature. The themes range from science fiction to erotism passing through comedy and dirty realism. This is an excellent introduction to Cuban literature and possibly the only anthology of its kind.
